International tourist spending in Europe is expected to increase by 11 percent in 2025, reaching about $838 billion. This boost is largely credited to countries such as France and Spain, which are projected to host historic numbers of visitors and accelerate the continent’s economic growth.
Analysts forecast that Europe’s travel market will see robust gains, supported by rising demand and shifting global travel flows. Tourist spending in Spain alone is predicted to rise roughly 6 percent to €113.2 billion, while visitor arrivals may approach 98 to 100 million—beating the prior record of 94 million.
France is also expected to maintain its lead as the top destination by arrival numbers, benefiting from strong inbound travel demand. Meanwhile, some of the rising demand may be coming at the expense of the United States, where foreign visitor spending is projected to fall around 7 percent this year.
Europe’s early 2025 data also point to sustained momentum. In the first quarter, tourist arrivals in the region climbed. Many travelers are opting for off-peak and value-for-money trips, helping smooth demand amid economic uncertainty.
Still, challenges lie ahead. Rising travel costs—from flights to package deals—are exerting pressure on budgets. Some source markets, particularly in the long-haul segment, show softening enthusiasm toward European destinations.
Even with those headwinds, the 11 percent jump in international spending highlights the strength of Europe’s tourism rebound—and the pivotal role that France and Spain continue to play in driving it forward.
