Russia launched a massive combined assault on Kyiv early Friday, killing four and injuring 27. Fires erupted, and residential buildings across multiple districts suffered severe damage. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that rescue teams could not retrieve two bodies from the rubble while gathering more information on the victims.
Civilian Toll and Damage Assessment
Officials confirmed that at least 27 people suffered injuries during the strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attacks as “deliberately calculated to inflict maximum harm on civilians and infrastructure.” He detailed that Russia used 430 drones and 18 missiles, including ballistic and aeroballistic types. Nine people were hospitalized, including a pregnant woman, while two children, aged 7 and 10, sustained injuries.
Klitschko said the assault struck 11 multi-story residential buildings in various districts. In Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi, falling debris ignited fires near a medical facility and inside a nonresidential structure. Authorities instructed residents to remain in shelters and warned of possible power and water outages. Regional head Mykola Kalashnyk reported that strikes outside Kyiv damaged homes and critical infrastructure, injuring at least six people, including a 55-year-old man in Bila Tserkva who suffered thermal burns.
Ongoing Conflict Across Ukraine
Russian forces continued strikes across other parts of Ukraine as they gained ground in the south. Ukrainian troops withdrew from multiple villages in Zaporizhzhia amid intense fighting. Over the past month, the Russian Defense Ministry reported capturing nine settlements in Donetsk, eight in Zaporizhzhia, seven in Dnipropetrovsk, and five in Kharkiv.
Despite these advances, Russia’s war of attrition has caused significant losses in personnel and armored vehicles. Analysts note that Ukrainian forces have managed to limit gains to incremental battlefield progress. The Institute for the Study of War said Russia’s siege of Pokrovsk proceeds slowly, as commanders disperse elite drone operators and special forces across multiple areas.
