Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro spoke out against Donald Trump following the State of the Union, warning that the president “will never leave” office and urging Americans to act. He also attended a counter-event, State of the Swamp, where he said he felt “betrayed by my country” and criticized what he described as a government run by “a handful of dishonest and greedy and cruel authoritarians.”
Trump Responds with Threats and Insults
Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib “lunatics” and suggesting they be deported. He also attacked De Niro personally, labeling him “deranged” and “seriously CRIMINAL,” while comparing him unfavorably to Rosie O’Donnell, whose citizenship Trump had previously threatened to revoke despite Supreme Court protections.
Public Opinion Reflects Concern Over Leadership
Polls show growing unease about Trump’s leadership, with 61 percent of Americans describing him as increasingly erratic with age, and 79 percent saying elected officials in Washington are too old to represent most citizens. Another poll revealed only 39 percent approve of how Trump is handling the presidency. White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed these surveys as “fake and desperate narratives,” highlighting the ongoing political divide in the country.
